The second annual Miss Teen Bahamas International was quite a success! It was super exciting to witness the crowd favorite take home the crown, it seemed as if the whole theater burst into celebration when Tia Thompson was announced the winner; and we have to add that she was the winner of the Pageant Diaries People;’s Choice Facebook competition, our followers have a great pageant eye.
Final night we saw the girls in their fitness wear (no swimsuit competition), couture outfits and their stunning evening gowns. After the special awards presentation and a few words from the director Anthony Smith, the ten contestants were whittled down to the top seven. The lucky seven were:
Each of the seven chose a question randomly and had to provide a response. It become pretty evident which contestants were moving on the finals…or so we thought. After deliberation from the the judges the final five were:
Erp! We were pretty sure that DeShay Whyms would have advanced to the finals, but remember. pageants can be unpredictable! The final results were:
Fourth Runner Up: Kimberly Stuart
Third Runner up: Santina Darrell
Second Runner up: Briealessa Wilson
First Runner up: Shannen Knowles
Winner: Tia Thompson
Tia Thompson will represent The Bahamas at the Miss Teen International competition, which will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, from July 31st through August 2nd.The young queen, said she intends to fulfill her mission to fight against cyber bullying.
Overall, we thought the pageant was great! It was “cutesy” (yes we made that up ) and fun to watch.
What we thought of the winner? Hey, she performed consistently throughout the entire competition right up until final night. She remained poised throughout the night and whenever she graced the stage, she was magnificent! A win well earned and the best part? No backlash about her victory, she deserved it!
Pageant Rating ( Teen Division): * These teen contestants may not all have been 5’8 and taller, and there may have been no swimsuit competition but these girls were beautiful and INTELLIGENT. They were all very well versed in their platforms and very well spoken (despite nerves taking a toll for some) it was evident on final night and throughout the competition. We were pleased to see the time and effort the contestants put into their platforms, it was refreshing! The pageant prizes were fantastic! A model contract with Major Model Management, the opportunity to be the official face of Mizani Hair Products, the Miss World’s Perfect Teen Bahamas Title…these were great! The downfall took place during the final night. We weren’t fans of the male escorts holding the teen contestants by the waist and escorting them off the stage..at all. The contestants had a tendency to look bored on stage and for good reason, there were points were they on stage for a really long time, doing nothing but standing there, we felt terrible for them in those heels and gowns.Remedy for this? Rehearsal, Rehearsal, Rehearsal and running the show a few times prior to pageant night, easy fix! The future for this pageant is extremely bright, we’re looking forward to next year! Whoot! Whoot!
